Stars Shine at American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Amid Fashion Hits and Misses
The 50th Anniversary Special of the American Music Awards took place at the L.A. Center Studios in Los Angeles, with a plethora of stars making their presence felt on the red carpet. Notably, the event saw a mix of fashion hits and misses, reflecting a broad range of styles among the attendees.
British singer Raye, known for her hit “Escapism,” made headlines with her unconventional red carpet attire. She wore a baggy dark green sweater paired with a mint mini skirt, black mules, and accessorized with statement earrings and red lipstick. Despite criticism for dressing down, Raye delivered a powerful performance of James Brown’s classic, “It’s A Man’s Man’s World” on stage.
Meanwhile, Sophia Culpo, younger sister of Olivia Culpo, dressed in a black sequin blazer dress that some critics deemed lackluster for the occasion. Sophia has previously appeared alongside her sisters in the reality series “The Culpo Series” and made a guest appearance in “Only Murders in the Building” in 2023.
Indi Star, another social media star and performer, also opted for a casual look, pairing a brown blouse with a blue maxi skirt and tennis shoes. The choice of attire was surprising for an event famed for its glamour.
Country music star Kane Brown had a rare fashion misstep, opting for a taupe ombre cardigan without an undershirt, showcasing his tattooed chest. He paired the look with white trousers, a striking belt, and cream boots.
Adding a touch of nostalgia to the proceedings was Backstreet Boys‘ AJ McLean, who sported a polka dot sequin top, black trousers, and silver boots, complemented by bold sunglasses.
Mariah Carey headlined the event, dazzling in a strapless ivory satin gown from Schiaparelli. She performed songs from her celebrated album “The Emancipation of Mimi,” ahead of its upcoming 20th anniversary.
Among the other prominent attendees was Jennifer Lopez, who appeared in a prerecorded segment. She reminisced about her first AMA appearance in 2001 and shared memories of watching the show as a child.
Kate Hudson also made waves with her unique green gown, dividing opinions on social media. Her ensemble was marked by its textured appearance, paired with sleek hair and minimalist jewelry.
Jennifer Hudson delivered a moving tribute to the late Whitney Houston, honoring her impressive 1994 AMA performance. Introduced by Samuel L. Jackson, Hudson’s tribute emphasized Houston’s impactful legacy at the American Music Awards.
The event also featured performances from industry legends such as Gladys Knight and Nile Rodgers, as well as contemporary icons like Jordyn Woods and Chaka Khan.
