PUNTA ROCA, La Libertad, El Salvador (Wednesday, April 2, 2025) – The Surf City El Salvador Pro, Stop No. 4 of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour, commenced today at 8:03 a.m. CST with clean three-to-four-foot surf conditions. Athletes are eager to compete, showcasing their skills starting with men’s and women’s Opening Rounds.

The tournament opens with a noteworthy matchup featuring 2025 breakout contender Rio Waida of Indonesia, who will compete against seasoned WSL veterans Connor O’Leary from Japan and Alejo Muniz from Brazil. Emotional stakes are high for Brazilian Yago Dora, who looks to improve upon his runner-up finish from last year against World Champion John John Florence. Dora heads into El Salvador following an event win in Portugal and aims to make a strong opening statement in Heat 4.

In an anticipated rematch from last year’s Elimination Round, event wildcard Bryan Perez from El Salvador faces World No. 1 Italo Ferreira of Brazil, with both competing in Heat 6 alongside first-time CT Rookie George Pittar from Australia. Former event champions Filipe Toledo (Brazil) and Griffin Colapinto (USA) are eager to channel their past successes in this round, each competing against strong challengers.

The women’s divisions commence with 2023 World Title contender Molly Picklum from Australia, competing against rookie standout Bella Kenworthy (USA) and CT replacement surfer Nadia Erostarbe from Spain. A standout is Caroline Marks (USA), who looks to capitalize on her current momentum after winning the MEO Rip Curl Pro Portugal and aims for her third consecutive win at the El Salvador event.

Each heat features talented women surfers, including last year’s event runner-up Gabriela Bryan (HAW), who will take on rookie Vahine Fierro (FRA) and CT veteran Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS). Bryan recently showcased her skills in Portugal, finishing in second place, and is expected to bring her competitive edge to Punta Roca.

The Surf City El Salvador Pro, featuring top surfing talents, will be broadcast live from April 2 through April 12. Fans can follow the competition on various platforms to witness thrilling matchups and the rich surfing culture of El Salvador.
