TAMPA, Fla. – The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Thursday they have traded forward Lucas Edmonds to the New York Rangers in exchange for forward Ryder Korczak. The deal, confirmed by Lightning Vice President and General Manager Julien BriseBois, marks a swap of young talent between the two NHL franchises.

Korczak, 22, has spent the 2024-25 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate. In 35 games, he has recorded three goals and 11 points, along with 14 penalty minutes and a plus-4 rating. The Yorkton, Saskatchewan native was drafted 75th overall by the Rangers in the 2021 NHL Draft and has played 107 career AHL games, all with Hartford, tallying 12 goals and 31 points.

Edmonds, 23, joins the Rangers organization after spending the season with the Syracuse Crunch, the Lightning’s AHL affiliate. In 26 games, he has scored one goal and four assists. The North Bay, Ontario native was drafted 86th overall by Tampa Bay in the 2022 NHL Draft and has 48 career points in 120 AHL games.

“We are excited to add Ryder to our organization,” BriseBois said in a statement. “He brings skill and versatility to our forward group, and we believe he has a bright future ahead.”

Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury expressed optimism about Edmonds’ potential. “Lucas is a talented young player who has shown steady growth in his game,” Drury said. “We look forward to seeing him contribute to the Wolf Pack and continue his development.”

Both players are expected to report to their new AHL teams, with Korczak joining the Syracuse Crunch and Edmonds assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack. The trade underscores both teams’ focus on bolstering their prospect pipelines as they aim for long-term success.
