Teacher Appreciation Week Offers Discounts and Freebies Across the U.S.

Washington, D.C. — As the school year wraps up, educators across the United States are being honored during National Teacher Appreciation Week, running from May 5 to May 9, with National Teachers Day observed on May 6. This week is designed to celebrate the hard work teachers put into their profession.
According to a recent survey, 73% of parents with K-12 students rated their children’s teachers as excellent or good, a slight increase from 71% in 2018. However, many teachers report high levels of stress, with 77% indicating that their jobs are frequently overwhelming.
A financial services company surveyed teachers from March 26 to April 1 and found that more than 30% feel unappreciated, yet most remain committed to their students. In an effort to recognize educators, the company is offering prizes this week, including a $2,500 Liberty Travel gift card.
National Teacher Appreciation Week was inspired by the National Parent Teacher Association, which established the week in 1984. Eleanor Roosevelt played a crucial role in convincing Congress to designate a day to honor teachers back in 1953.
To show appreciation, various businesses are offering special deals. For instance, Buffalo Wild Wings is giving teachers 20% off their bills with a school ID through May 6.
Additionally, Chipotle is allowing teachers and healthcare workers to enter for a chance to win a free burrito, while Sonic is offering exclusive deals for members of its Teachers’ Circle rewards program, including a free snack with purchase.
Restaurants like Whataburger are providing breakfast items for free, while stores like Staples and Michael's are offering discounts on products for teachers with valid IDs. Many local establishments are joining in, with various offers available to recognize the contributions teachers make throughout the year.
According to education experts, appreciation can also come in the form of heartfelt notes. Many educators state that sincere messages mean more than material gifts.
As we celebrate National Teacher Appreciation Week, countless opportunities exist to acknowledge the dedication teachers exhibit daily in shaping future generations.
