Tee Higgins Requests Trade from Bengals Amid Contract Stalemate
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins has officially requested a trade, following a deadlock in contract negotiations with the team. The news, brought to light by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, comes as the NFL‘s legal tampering window opens ahead of free agency.
Higgins expressed his love for Cincinnati but voiced disappointment over the lack of progress in long-term contract talks since March 2023. The fourth-year player had been under the franchise tag for the upcoming season.
Despite featuring prominently in the Bengals’ offense, accumulating 257 catches, 3,684 yards, and 24 touchdowns in four seasons, Higgins found himself in a contract impasse with the team, prompting his trade request.
At the NFL scouting combine, Bengals’ director of player personnel Duke Tobin acknowledged the desire to retain Higgins for another season. However, he hinted at the possibility of a potential move, indicating a shift in the team’s stance.
Higgins’ potential availability has sparked interest among other teams in the league, with several organizations likely to pursue the dynamic wide receiver. Non-Bengals teams are preparing to contact Higgins, and a trade could alter the landscape of his career.
Potential landing spots for Higgins include teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans, all seeking to bolster their receiver corps. The Washington Commanders, with ample cap space, emerge as a viable destination for Higgins, providing a conducive environment for his talents.
