ASHBURN, Va. — Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is reportedly frustrated with the lack of progress on a new contract and has stopped attending voluntary workouts. The 29-year-old veteran is coming off his fifth consecutive 1,000-yard receiving season and is eager for a deal that reflects his production.

McLaurin’s absence was first noted Thursday by NFL insider Jordan Schultz, who highlighted that discussions between the player and the team have been minimal. McLaurin is entering the final year of a three-year, $68.4 million contract he signed in 2022. He is eligible for a significant pay raise due to his consistent performance, including a second Pro Bowl nod this past season.

“McLaurin has thrived regardless of who is throwing him the football,” said NFL.com senior researcher Anthony Holzman-Escareno. “He’s led the team in receptions and receiving yards in each of his first six seasons.” McLaurin’s ability to produce at a high level, even with 11 different quarterbacks since joining the team, has made him a vital part of Washington’s offense.

While Washington should be motivated to negotiate a new deal, there could be considerations leading to a potential trade. McLaurin will turn 30 in September, and with the Commanders having invested in wide receiver Deebo Samuel this offseason, they aren’t entirely reliant on McLaurin.

Hypothetical trade scenarios have begun to circulate, with several teams reportedly interested in acquiring him. The Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and New England Patriots are among those that might view McLaurin as a key addition. The rumors emphasize the fact that if a suitable offer arises, Washington could consider moving him, especially with young quarterback Jayden Daniels now under center.

The next significant date for McLaurin is Washington’s mandatory minicamp starting next Tuesday. If he does not reach a new deal by then, he risks potential fines for missing mandatory practices. However, sources expect him to be present for training camp later this summer.

As one of the NFL’s more reliable receivers, McLaurin’s situation continues to develop as he pushes for a contract that reflects his value as one of the league’s top wideouts.
