Thayron Liranzo Leads American League to Victory with Game-Winning Homer in 2024 Fall Stars Game
In a thrilling display of power and precision, Detroit Tigers prospect Thayron Liranzo has been named the MVP of the 2024 Fall Stars Game. The game, held at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona, saw Liranzo make a significant impact with just one at-bat, hitting a go-ahead home run in the top of the ninth inning to secure a 6-5 victory for the American League over the National League.
Liranzo’s home run was a standout moment, traveling 437 feet at 112 mph off the bat. The 21-year-old right fielder’s performance was capped off with an emphatic one-handed bat flip, a gesture he described as dependent on the situation but fitting for the moment. ‘In this particular one, I said, ‘It’s over. It’s done,” Liranzo said via interpreter Annalee Ramirez.
This achievement marks Liranzo as the first player in Detroit Tigers franchise history to win the Fall Stars Game MVP award since it was first handed out in 2010. He is also only the third player from the Dominican Republic to receive this honor, following in the footsteps of Victor Robles and Gary Sánchez.
Liranzo’s performance in the Fall League has been impressive, with a batting line of .326/.463/.581 and eight of his 14 hits going for extra bases. His success has solidified his position as Detroit’s top-ranked catching prospect, according to MLB Pipeline.
