Tigers Erupt for Eight Runs in Ninth, Defeat Angels 9-1

ANAHEIM, Calif. — The Detroit Tigers rallied in a dramatic finish to defeat the Los Angeles Angels 9-1 on Friday night, thanks to an explosive eight-run ninth inning.
Riley Greene kicked off the inning with a powerful homer, setting the stage for a series of offensive explosions. The Tigers hit four home runs in total during the inning, with Greene contributing twice. Colt Keith followed shortly after Greene with another home run just three pitches later off Angels closer Kenley Jansen.
After two outs and a runner on first, Javier Baez also launched a home run off Jansen, who struggled in the frame, eventually allowing six runs on six hits while managing to record only two outs. Greene’s second home run of the inning came from Jake Eder, adding three crucial runs to the Tigers’ tally.
Trey Sweeney also contributed to the scoring, hitting a home run in the seventh that tied the game at 1-1. The performance overshadowed strong outings from both starting pitchers; Detroit’s Tarik Skubal allowed just one run over six innings, striking out eight with no walks, while Los Angeles’ Jose Soriano delivered six scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
The Angels have now lost seven consecutive games, continuing a difficult stretch for the team.
In other noteworthy MLB matchups, the New York Yankees edged past the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0, thanks to Paul Goldschmidt‘s three-run homer in the fifth inning. Max Fried’s one-hit performance secured his status as the majors’ first six-game winner this season.
Further west, the Seattle Mariners trounced the Texas Rangers 13-1, with Cal Raleigh hitting both a solo homer and a grand slam, supported by dominant pitching from Bryan Woo.
Overall, the night was marked by explosive offensive plays across multiple games, showcasing the unpredictable nature of baseball.
