Tobi Amusan Shines In 100m Hurdles At The 2024 Olympics

World champion Tobi Amusan is making waves at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. She ran an impressive time of 12.49 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, effortlessly leading her group and securing a place in the semi-finals.

Right behind her was the American sprinter Alaysha Johnson, who clocked in at 12.61 seconds, followed by Jamaica’s Janeek Brown at 12.84 seconds. With performances like this, Amusan is definitely a favorite to snag the gold medal!

However, the competition is fierce. Amusan will face tough challengers, including Devynne Charlton from the Bahamas, USA’s Alaysha Johnson, world champion Danielle Williams, and the reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn from Puerto Rico.

The semi-finals are set for Friday, August 9, and the final will take place on Saturday, August 10, just before the athletics events wrap up.

This 27-year-old athlete has been on fire leading up to the Olympics. She recorded a stellar season’s best of 12.40 seconds at the Jamaican Athletics Invitational in Kingston back in May.

Earlier this year, she not only broke the indoor record for the African 60m hurdles twice but also snagged her third consecutive African Games title in Ghana.

Moreover, she helped her team to gold in the women’s 4x100m relay at the African Championships in Cameroon just three months later. This season, Amusan has participated in multiple events, including the 60m, 100m, and various relay races.

Notably, she’s a three-time Diamond League winner and has won gold at the Commonwealth Games twice, along with being a two-time African champion and a three-time African Games gold medalist. This is her second trip to the Olympics, having previously competed in Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020.
