Tom Selleck, the acclaimed actor known for his role in the long-running television series “Blue Bloods,” has expressed his frustration following the show’s cancellation. Selleck, who has portrayed New York City Police Commissioner Frank Reagan since the show’s premiere in 2010, shared his thoughts during a recent interview, highlighting that it will take him “a long time” to come to terms with the end of the series.

“I’m kind of frustrated,” Selleck stated in an interview, referring to the final episodes of the series. “During those last eight shows, I haven’t wanted to talk about an ending for Blue Bloods but about it still being wildly successful.” The series, which focuses on a multi-generational family of law enforcement officers in New York City, has been a staple on CBS television for 14 seasons.

Selleck, 79, emphasized the show’s consistent performance despite its late timeslot. “I’m not going to turn into a bitter old guy saying, ‘Get off my lawn,'” he remarked. “I don’t believe in holding grudges, but if you were to say to the television network, ‘Here’s a show you can program in the worst time slot you got, and it is going to guarantee you winning Friday night for the next 15 years,’ it would be almost impossible to believe.”

The show is set to air its final eight episodes, beginning on October 18th. Despite its success, CBS announced the show’s cancellation in late April 2023. “Blue Bloods” was ranked ninth among the Top 100 TV Shows of 2023-2024, a testament to its lasting popularity.

Fellow cast members, including Donnie Wahlberg and Bridget Moynahan, have also expressed their sentiments regarding the cancellation. During a joint appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show,” Wahlberg, who plays NYPD Detective Danny Reagan, shared that they were “more upset and sad” about the show’s end. Moynahan, portraying New York County District Attorney Bureau Chief Erin Reagan-Boyle, echoed these emotions, saying, “We’ve created such a family on set with each other and the crew.”

The final eight episodes will mark the conclusion of a series that has been a significant part of Selleck’s career and television history. Despite efforts by the cast to appeal the decision, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach confirmed the show’s end in May 2023. Selleck, known also for his role in “Quigley Down Under,” has been candid about the show’s impact on his professional and personal life, even considering the financial implications, such as the potential sale of his 63-acre ranch in California.
