Mamelodi Sundowns Vs Supersport United Loftus Versfeld Stadium

The much-anticipated Tshwane Derby between Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport United is set to mark the opening of the 2024-25 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. The match will take place at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, where current champions Mamelodi Sundowns, also known as Masandawana, will host their local rivals, Matsatsantsa, better known as SuperSport United.

Mamelodi Sundowns aim to clinch their eighth PSL title, extending their record, while SuperSport United seeks their first league victory since the 2009-10 season. The game is scheduled to begin at 19:30 on September 17, 2024. Sundowns will be looking to carry the momentum from their recent 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows in the CAF Champions League second preliminary round. This match saw Lucas Ribeiro Costa scoring twice, complemented by goals from Mosa Lebusa and Iqraam Rayners.

SuperSport United, on the other hand, is eager to put their recent 3-1 defeat to Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 quarter-finals behind them. They are determined to improve upon their seventh-place finish from last season, but they will face a challenge without their coach Gavin Hunt, who is suspended due to disciplinary reasons stemming from the previous campaign.

In their league encounters last season, Mamelodi Sundowns had the upper hand with a 2-0 win, followed by a 1-1 draw in their subsequent meeting against SuperSport United. Sundowns’ lineup for the match includes players such as Williams, Lebusa, Coetzee, Kekana, and Shalulile, among others. SuperSport United’s lineup is yet to be confirmed.
