Siyabonga Nomvethe's Psl Goal Record Under Threat From Shalulile And Grobler

Two South African strikers are closing in on Siyabonga Nomvethe’s Premier Soccer League goal record. Mamelodi SundownsPeter Shalulile and SuperSport United‘s Bradley Grobler are within striking distance of Nomvethe’s tally of 123 goals.

Shalulile, with 113 goals, stands second on the all-time PSL goal list, with Grobler recently scoring his 100th PSL goal. Shalulile has had nine goals this season, while Grobler reached his milestone in SuperSport United’s recent 2-0 win against Maritzburg United.

Shalulile’s campaign has been quieter this season with 9 goals so far, but Grobler, now in his 16th season, has hit a rich vein of form in recent years, netting 47 goals in the past three-and-a-half seasons.

The race to break Nomvethe’s record is on, with Shalulile aiming to surpass the legendary striker with more games for Sundowns in the current season and Grobler facing a tougher challenge with a limited number of games remaining for SuperSport United.

Nomvethe’s final PSL goal came in December 2018. While Grobler’s injury history may impact his longevity, Shalulile, at 30 years old, still has time to chase even higher goal numbers in South Africa’s topflight league before considering other opportunities, as he leads the pack among foreign PSL goal-scorers.
