MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Star receiver Tyreek Hill has not yet decided if he will continue his football career after suffering a season-ending knee injury on September 29 against the New York Jets. In a recent podcast interview with Terron Armstead, his former Miami Dolphins teammate, Hill shared that his focus is currently on recovery following surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
“At the end of the day, I feel like that decision is based upon how I feel and where my mindset is at the moment,” Hill said. “I’m happy with the career that I’ve had. I love playing football, but it takes a lot mentally and physically.”
Hill sustained the injury during the third quarter of Miami’s Week 4 victory. He caught a pass and, while being tackled, planted his left foot, twisting his knee. The Dolphins placed him on injured reserve on October 1.
“When I got tackled, I immediately tried to get up, but my leg was crooked,” Hill recalled. Despite the pain, he laughed and expressed gratitude for the opportunities football has given him. “I wasn’t even thinking about the injury,” he noted. “I was just reflecting on the great times I’ve had playing this game.”
Now 31, Hill has played ten NFL seasons and enjoyed significant success. He led the league with 1,799 receiving yards in 2023 and has been a five-time All-Pro. Despite a challenging 2024 season, he entered 2025 hoping to regain his elite form.
Hill acknowledged the uncertain future of his contract with the Dolphins, which runs through next season. “I don’t want to make any rash decisions,” he said. “I just want to be in this moment with my family.”
As recovery progresses, Hill has expressed optimism about the Dolphins’ future. He defended his teammate, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, amidst criticism following the team’s recent decline to a 1-6 record. “Everyone’s got something to say when you’re losing,” Hill stated. “But I’ll support Tua regardless. He wants to win.”
Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, indicated that the goal is to have Hill ready for the start of the 2026 season. However, there is speculation that the Dolphins may release him before the new league year in March.
Whether Hill ultimately returns to the field remains unclear, but he remains grateful for his career thus far. “If this is it, it was one remarkable ride,” Hill reflected.
