Utah Jazz Announces New Practice Facility Plans in Sandy

SANDY, Utah — The Utah Jazz announced plans to build a new practice facility at The Shops of South Town in Sandy. The announcement was made by team owners Ryan and Ashley Smith, who were joined by players and coaches in a groundbreaking ceremony.
“There’s really not a facility like this with the room to spread out,” Ryan Smith said during the event. He drew comparisons to a recent tour he took of Real Madrid‘s facilities, stating that this new building aims to offer a world-class environment.
The planned facility will feature two basketball courts, a locker room, training spaces, and other amenities. Jazz president Austin Ainge highlighted that it will also serve as a communal space where basketball and hockey players can interact.
Construction of the new facility is expected to begin this fall and may take up to two years to complete, contrasting with the Utah Mammoth‘s practice facility, which took just 13 months to finish.
The decision to establish the facility reflects a growing interest in bringing more community engagement to both the Jazz and the Mammoth, as Ryan Smith revealed that their phones are buzzing with inquiries about future developments in Sandy.
As basketball and hockey activities develop, Smith envisions more opportunities for local events and programs, stating, “This gives them an opportunity as we start adding things to what can be around here.”
