Warner Bros Announces Minecraft Movie 2 Release Date for 2027

BURBANK, Calif. — Warner Bros has officially announced the development of a sequel to the hit film A Minecraft Movie, with a release date set for July 23, 2027. The original film, released earlier this year, grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide, illustrating the franchise’s massive popularity.
Director Jared Hess will return to helm this follow-up, co-writing the screenplay with Chris Galletta, who previously worked on The Kings of Summer. Specific plot details are not yet available, but production is expected to include various beloved characters from the Minecraft universe.
Jason Momoa is confirmed to be producing the sequel, hinting at the potential return of his character, Garrett “The Garbage Man” Garrison. While the original cast’s involvement has not been disclosed, fans are excited for what lies ahead in the Minecraft-verse.
The first film debuted to a record-setting domestic opening of $163 million and has since become the No. 1 film of 2025, with a total box office gross reaching up to $957.8 million, making it the third highest-grossing film of the year.
In addition to Minecraft Movie 2, Warner Bros has rescheduled its animated film Bad Fairies from July 23, 2027, to May 21, 2027, allowing more room for the Minecraft sequel. This summer’s lineup is shaping up, with further details on upcoming releases still anticipated.
The upcoming slate also includes Warner Bros’ own superhero film, which features a unique storyline involving Superman and Lex Luthor, set for a July 9 release.
