Xbox Game Pass Introduces New Tiers and Price Increases

REDMOND, Wash. — Xbox Game Pass is undergoing a major transformation, with Microsoft announcing new subscription tiers and price increases as of October 1, 2025. This revamp introduces three plans: Essential, Premium, and Ultimate, catering to different gaming preferences and needs.
Launched in 2017, Xbox Game Pass has been a cornerstone of Microsoft’s gaming ecosystem. The latest update marks the most significant change yet, with the Ultimate plan now priced at $29.99 per month, reflecting a 50% increase from the previous rate. The Premium tier remains at $14.99, while the Essential plan is set at $9.99 per month.
“We’re rolling out our most expansive upgrade yet, including more day-one games than ever before,” said Team Xbox. The Ultimate tier now offers access to over 75 new releases annually, featuring anticipated titles like ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops 7′ and ‘The Outer Worlds 2’.
Premium subscribers gain entry to a selection of 200+ games and in-game benefits without day-one access. Meanwhile, the Essential plan provides 50 games, unlimited cloud gaming, and online multiplayer options.
The announcement also includes the introduction of cloud gaming enhancements, with Ultimate users able to stream games at improved quality up to 1440p, exiting beta status. Subscribers can enjoy a streamlined Game Pass experience across Xbox consoles, PCs, and supported devices.
Additionally, Xbox has revamped its rewards program. Ultimate subscribers can earn up to $100 per year in store points simply by playing games, while Premium and Essential subscribers can earn lesser amounts based on their gaming activities.
Microsoft is positioning the new plans as a response to evolving market conditions and the increased cost of game development. The service now integrates PC gaming into standard tiers while promising to maintain robust content offerings.
As these changes roll out, Microsoft acknowledges growing scrutiny over Game Pass’s sustainability. The company remains committed to improving player engagement and creator participation, touting record levels of satisfaction among subscribers.
The future of Xbox Game Pass aims to meet diverse player needs while keeping pace with the competitive gaming landscape.
