Where to Park for Clarksville’s 250th Independence Day Celebration

Clarksville is gearing up for a grand celebration. America’s 250th Independence Day will be marked with a two-day event on July 3 and 4 in downtown Clarksville. The city and Montgomery County are hosting the free, rain-or-shine festivities. Live music, entertainment, and fireworks are planned at Downtown Commons.

Parking is a key concern for attendees. Austin Peay State University (APSU) is offering free public parking in all its lots on both days. That’s a significant relief for many. Previously, some lots were listed as available only on July 3, but the update confirms all APSU lots will be open and free on July 3 and 4. However, shuttle services will not be available.

Road closures will affect traffic. Second Street from Main Street to Franklin Street, and Legion Street to Third Street, will be closed for carnival ride setup starting July 2. Also, the McGregor Park boat ramp parking lot will close after the 5K event on July 2 at noon, remaining closed until cleanup finishes on July 4.

Clarksville Transit System (CTS) operations will relocate to Union Street and Cooper Place. Buses will not run on July 4 and 5. That’s something to note for those relying on public transit.

Accessible parking is available. Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) parking will be located on the last level of 2 and the first level of 3 (Pedestrian Bridge) in the First Street Garage, and Level 3a and 4 in the Cumberland Garage. The Franklin Street parking garage will be closed from July 2 to 4.

Additional parking is available in APSU lots: 10, 11, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28 on July 3 only, 29 on July 3 only, 30, 32, and 33. Lots 28 and 29 will not be available to the public on July 4.

Pets are not allowed at the event. Service animals must be on a leash, and owners must clean up after them. The Clarksville Police Department and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will have an increased presence for safety and traffic control.

Parents are encouraged to get wristbands for their children. These are free and available at Parks & Recreation tent locations on First Street and Strawberry Alley, City Hall parking lot, and Downtown Commons. The wristbands contain parent or guardian contact information to help reunite lost children quickly. If a child goes missing, contact the nearest officer or report to the Parks & Recreation office at 102 Public Square.

Prohibited items include various dangerous or disruptive objects. The event promises to be a memorable one, with careful planning for parking and safety.
