The summer in Chicago has many unmissable events, but few manage to gather as many people as the Windy City Smokeout.
From July 8 to 12, the parking lot of the United Center will once again become a meeting point for thousands of lovers of country music, barbecue, and craft beer.
In its 2026 edition there is an important novelty: for the first time it will have five days of activities, starting Wednesday with a special night concert.
Twice recognized by the Academy of Country Music (ACM) as “Festival of the Year,” this event has established itself as one of the great summer events in the United States and an experience that goes far beyond the concerts.
The 2026 edition bets on a combination that rarely fails: big country artists, some of the best pitmasters in the United States, and a completely outdoor atmosphere.
According to information from the United Center, Wednesday, July 8 will debut an exclusive day headlined by Treaty Oak Revival, accompanied by Braxton Keith and Sterling Elza.
The idea is to offer a more intimate experience before the festival reaches its maximum capacity during the rest of the weekend.
Then will come the parade of figures that many were waiting for: The lineup, designed by promoter Ed Warm, also includes emerging artists who represent the generational change in country.
To talk about Windy City Smokeout without mentioning the food would be to stay with half the story.
According to Choose Chicago and Secret Chicago, more than 20 teams of pitmasters will serve ribs, brisket, smoked pork, sausages, and other classics prepared with recipes from Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Arizona, Virginia, and, of course, Chicago.
Among the participants stand out: The offer is completed with craft beer, specialty drinks, temporary shops, and spaces designed for taking photographs during the event.
One of the most useful tips for those attending is to avoid driving if possible.
The United Center will be connected through several CTA options, which will offer access from the Green, Pink, and Blue lines, in addition to bus routes 9, 20, 50, and 126.
At the end of the concerts, the special 19 United Center Express service will operate, which facilitates the return to Union Station, downtown Chicago, and Michigan Avenue.
Those who prefer to arrive by car can do so from the I-90, I-55, and I-290 highways, although the organizers recommend leaving with enough time due to the high flow of visitors expected during those five days.
The wristbands are already available and there are several options for different budgets: The organizers also remember that children under 10 years old enter for free when accompanied by an adult with a ticket.
More than a festival, Windy City Smokeout has become a tradition of the summer, and seeing this year’s lineup, it is hard to imagine a better place for those who enjoy country music, good barbecue, and that festive atmosphere that only a city like Chicago knows how to build in the middle of July.
