In a move that has sent ripples through the K-pop world, TWICE member Jeongyeon has officially parted ways with JYP Entertainment and signed a fresh exclusive contract with VARO Entertainment. The announcement came on the 10th, accompanied by a heartfelt handwritten letter from the singer herself.
“After spending a long time together since my teenage years at JYP, I am now planning to start anew in a different place,” Jeongyeon wrote. She admitted that leaving a familiar environment was frightening, but found courage thanks to the support of her fellow members and ONCE, the fandom. Her gratitude extended to the JYP family as well.
VARO Entertainment, which confirmed the signing the same day, expressed delight in forming a bond with Yoo Jeong-yeon, as she is known offstage. The agency praised her “sincere attitude and genuine passion for acting,” noting that she will receive full support to continue her group activities with TWICE while also pursuing a new path as an actress.
Jeongyeon debuted with TWICE in 2015, riding a wave of hits like “OOH-AHH,” “Cheer Up,” and “TT.” She recently confirmed her appearance in the film “Shinbyeong: The Movie,” marking her first steps into acting. Notably, VARO Entertainment also houses her older sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon, alongside professionals such as Jin Goo, Byeon Woo-seok, Park Jung-woo, Lee Yoo-mi, Lee Hong-nae, Lee Soo-kyung, Lee Chae-min, and Kim Si-a.
While she is moving to a new home, Jeongyeon was quick to reassure fans. “There is one thing I want to tell ONCE clearly: Although I am moving to a new home and starting a new challenge, TWICE, which remains my greatest center within me, will continue to be protected just as it is now. As a member of TWICE, standing before ONCE will always be my top priority,” she emphasized.
This transition comes at a significant juncture for the group. TWICE members had renewed their contracts with JYP Entertainment in 2022, but individual activities have increased since then. As the next renewal period approaches, rumors have surfaced about some members, including Tzuyu and Jihyo, potentially leaving the agency. Speculation continues to swirl, though nothing has been confirmed.
