The South Shore Line has temporarily stopped all train service due to severe weather, the railroad announced Tuesday afternoon. The unexpected halt has left passengers on at least two trains waiting indefinitely.
Westbound Train 122 is being held at Dune Park, while eastbound Train 109 is sitting on Metra’s property. Officials have not provided a timeline for when service might resume. The length of the delay, they said, is unknown.
This is a developing situation. The railroad is urging passengers to check the South Shore Line’s official website for the latest service updates. Riders are also advised to plan for extended waiting times as the weather system moves through the region.
Severe weather in northern Indiana often triggers such precautions, as safety is the top priority. But for commuters stuck on board or waiting at stations, the uncertainty is frustrating. One passenger, who asked not to be named, described the scene as “tense but orderly.”
