Gunil is leaving Xdinary Heroes. The drummer’s departure comes after controversy over an online post accusing him of insulting fans, and his exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment has been terminated by mutual agreement.
The agency announced the news Thursday, saying it had held extensive discussions with the artist. “We determined that it would be difficult for him to continue team activities and mutually agreed to terminate his exclusive contract,” JYP Entertainment said. The company added that Gunil would conclude his activities with the band as of that day.
Xdinary Heroes will now continue as a five-member group. The agency said it would provide full support so the remaining members can focus on their music activities in a stable environment.
Neither the agency’s statement nor the initial announcement specified what triggered the decision. But online communities have pointed to a post that surfaced recently, written by someone claiming to be Gunil’s former girlfriend. The post said the drummer “often insults fans in front of me” and behaves very differently from how he appears on broadcasts.
The writer said she had felt uncomfortable for a long time and kept it to herself, but eventually decided to upload the post because “seeing him on a broadcast made it especially difficult.”
Xdinary Heroes debuted in December 2021. The band is known for tracks such as “Happy Death Day,” “Hello, World!” “Deadlock,” “FiRE (My Sweet Misery)” and “X room.”
With Gunil’s exit, the lineup shifts to Jooyeon, Jungsu, Gaon, Jun Han and O.de. The change takes effect immediately, and the group is scheduled to perform at the Summer Sonic 2026 festival in Japan on the 14th as a five-piece.
Gunil, born in 1998, studied at Berklee College of Music before joining Xdinary Heroes. He served as the group’s leader and drummer since debut. Last year, the band completed its second world tour, “Beautiful Mind,” playing 18 shows across 14 regions. In January, the members held their first solo concerts in Osaka and Yokohama, and in April they promoted their eighth mini album, “DEAD AND.”
The departure marks the first time in nearly five years that Xdinary Heroes will operate without Gunil. JYP Entertainment apologized for causing concern with the sudden news and promised to support the remaining members as they move forward.
