Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert is expected to miss multiple weeks after suffering a sprained MCL in Sunday‘s 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, according to ESPN. The injury occurred in the second quarter. Goedert had been targeted twice and caught one pass for 4 yards before leaving the game.
The Eagles are responding by reuniting with a familiar face. Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is signing with Philadelphia‘s practice squad, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Ertz, 35, played for the Eagles from 2013 to 2021 and was a three-time Pro Bowl selection. He was a key contributor to Philadelphia’s first Super Bowl-winning team in the 2017 season.
Goedert, 31, is in his ninth season with the Eagles after being chosen in the second round of the 2018 draft. A durable presence in Philadelphia, he has played in at least 10 games every year. He is coming off his best season in 2025, when he reached career highs of 60 receptions and 11 touchdowns. Through two games this season, Goedert has 5 catches for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns, with both scores coming against Washington in Week 1.
Ertz spent parts of nine seasons with the Eagles after getting drafted in the second round in 2013. Philadelphia traded him to the Arizona Cardinals midway through the 2021 season. After two and a half years with the Cardinals — the last two of which ended with injuries — Ertz signed with the Washington Commanders. In 2025, he tallied 50 catches for 504 yards with 4 touchdowns in 13 starts. He sustained a season-ending ACL tear in December and did not sign a contract in the offseason or participate in a training camp.
Ertz’s 825 receptions rank fifth on the all-time list by a tight end. His 8,592 receiving yards rank eighth by a tight end. He has made three Pro Bowl teams, all from 2017 to 2019.
The Eagles are off to a 2-0 start but struggled to put away the Titans on Sunday. They trailed 20-17 late in the fourth quarter before scoring a touchdown with seconds remaining to secure the winning final margin. Goedert is a favorite red-zone target of quarterback Jalen Hurts and a standout blocker for a run game that struggled after his exit. A stinger limited starting running back Saquon Barkley to four carries. The Eagles tallied 89 yards on 32 carries, 2.8 yards per carry, against the Titans. Barkley was slated to undergo an MRI on his injury sometime after Sunday’s game. Head coach Nick Sirianni told reporters that he did not have an update on Barkley’s condition as of Monday afternoon.
ESPN’s John Keim contributed to this report.
