Lions Lose Two to Injury as Kennedy, White Carted Off vs. Cardinals

The Detroit Lions got off to a slow and tough start against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Not only did they fall behind 7-0 in a hurry, but two Lions players also went to the locker room with injuries.

First was linebacker Devin White. It wasn’t clear how White, who was active for the first time since Week 2, suffered his injury, but he was listed as questionable to return with a forearm. The FOX broadcast showed him taking a cart to the locker room.

Shortly thereafter, Lions punt returner Tom Kennedy suffered a knee injury on a return in which his foot was caught in the ground and his body was bent awkwardly. Kennedy was initially able to walk to the sidelines and was treated in the blue tent. However, eventually, he was carted to the locker room. The Lions officially listed him as questionable to return with a knee injury.

On the subsequent punt, Amon-Ra St. Brown was the returner for Detroit, and fumbled the ball, but the Lions recovered.

The Detroit Lions entered their Week 5 contest against the Arizona Cardinals at a 2-2 record. The story of the season so far has been their ineffective defense. Through four games, they had allowed 127 points to opposing offenses.

During their game at Arizona, wide receiver and punt returner Tom Kennedy was injured during the first half. He is now questionable to return with a knee injury, and that development has made Detroit get creative with their punt return personnel per Brad Galli.

Star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown returned a second-quarter punt for 30 yards to the Lions’ 48-yard line before fumbling the ball. Fortunately for him, his team did recover it.

If Kennedy cannot return to the game, St. Brown could see some more time at returner. Outside of two punt returns in 2024, he is very inexperienced at the NFL level.
