Liam Neeson’s New Thriller Tops Netflix Charts

LOS GATOS, California — Liam Neeson’s latest thriller, “Retribution,” is currently the most popular film on Netflix after its release in July. This sequel to 2021’s “The Ice Road” sees Neeson reprising his role as Mike McCann, an American ice road trucker.
In “Retribution,” McCann travels to Nepal to honor his late brother’s wish of scattering his ashes on Mt. Everest. During his journey, he meets a skilled local guide, and together, they join the Kiwi Express tour bus along with other passengers. As the adventure unfolds, the group faces danger when two mercenaries hijack the bus in an attempt to kidnap a passenger.
The film is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, who previously directed “The Ice Road.” Hensleigh’s work was inspired by the 1953 film “The Wages of Fear,” based on Georges Arnaud‘s novel of the same name. Despite mixed reviews with a 17 percent rating on the Tomatometer and 28 percent on the Popcornmeter, audience reactions have been largely favorable. One viewer praised the film as an uplifting experience and commended Neeson’s performance.
Another audience member remarked, “It’s a great endless action flick that doesn’t need much thought. It’s easy to watch, with good pacing and plenty of action. Liam Neeson is his usual high-quality self, alongside younger actors who pull their weight. You don’t even need to have seen the first one. Give it a try; it’s much better than these reviews suggest.”
With growing appreciation from viewers two months post-release, it seems “Retribution” has found its place on the weekend watchlists of many.
