Omarion Hampton La Chargers Running Back

LOS ANGELES, CA — LA Chargers‘ first-round pick Omarion Hampton has not yet made the expected impact on the team’s offense. Selected with the No. 22 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, fans had high hopes for the former UNC running back. However, after two division games, the Chargers’ run game remains a concern.

Head Coach Jim Harbaugh acknowledged these struggles following the Chargers’ victory over the Raiders on Monday. He emphasized the need for improvement in the run game, hinting that the responsibility begins with Hampton.

Despite leading the team in carries with 23 for 76 yards and no touchdowns, Hampton’s performance has not met expectations. “We need to be better,” Harbaugh told reporters. “That starts with our running backs.” While Harrbaugh’s message was clear, it is vital to note that the offensive line and other running backs also share the blame.

The Chargers’ offensive line remains a point of contention as the team did not address key positions, which once again has led to familiar issues. This could translate into a significant problem, especially with the team needing more from the ground game in the coming weeks.

Hampton’s challenges include a costly fumble against the Raiders, which gave the opposition a chance to retaliate. As the team prepares for their upcoming matchup against the Denver Broncos, it’s essential for Hampton to embrace feedback and elevate his game.

If he continues to struggle in his rookie season, the Chargers may consider switching to Najee Harris as their primary running back. The team’s success against the Broncos on Sunday largely depends on the ability to establish a reliable ground game.
