NEW YORK, N.Y. — Nicholas Braun and Kara Young will star in a revival of Rajiv Joseph’s acclaimed play, Gruesome Playground Injuries, set to begin performances at the Lucille Lortel Theatre on November 7 and run through December 28.

This gripping two-character drama explores the 30-year friendship of Doug and Kayleen, who repeatedly cross paths under bizarre circumstances, comparing physical scars and emotional traumas. ‘I have known and loved Rajiv Joseph’s work for years and am thrilled to be directing this seminal play,’ said director Neil Pepe in a statement.

The production boasts notable talent, with Braun, recognized for his role as Cousin Greg on HBO’s Succession, making his New York stage debut. Young, a two-time Tony Award winner, returns to the theatrical spotlight following her acclaimed role in the Broadway play Purpose. ‘To have the opportunity to work with these two extraordinary actors is a gift,’ Pepe added.

Gruesome Playground Injuries first premiered at Houston’s Alley Theatre in 2009 before moving to Off-Broadway in 2011 at the Second Stage Theatre. This new production reflects Joseph’s ongoing prominence as a leading American playwright.

Tickets for the show will be available for Lortel members starting September 24 at noon, with general sales opening on September 29 at 10 AM. The show is produced by Seaview, Sue Wagner, and John Johnson, continuing their collaboration with the historic Lucille Lortel Theater.

As the countdown to opening night begins, audiences anticipate the unique blend of humor and pain that marks Joseph’s celebrated work. Further details regarding the creative team will be announced soon.
