Arizona Flood Watch September 2025

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – A Flood Watch is currently in effect for the Tucson area through Saturday evening as heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecasted.

The National Weather Service warns that the heaviest rain is expected on Friday, with afternoon thunderstorms developing in a line from Tucson to the east. A second round of storms is anticipated overnight into Saturday morning.

Due to less energy in the atmosphere, storms may become volatile, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours on Friday. Forecasts indicate a continuation of thunderstorms on Saturday, but with less intensity.

“There is a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m. on Friday, transitioning into more likely showers and storms as the day progresses,” said a spokesperson from the National Weather Service.

Scheduled temperatures are expected to be around 90 degrees on Friday, with the humidity potentially increasing the risk of flash flooding in certain areas.

As the weekend approaches, any lingering showers may taper off by Sunday. Temperatures are projected to range from the 80s into the lower 90s as the region dries out.

PHOENIX, Ariz. (AZFamily) – In the Phoenix area, scattered showers and thunderstorms have also been reported, particularly in higher terrain areas. A low-pressure system moving in from California is expected to enhance moisture levels, triggering thunderstorms with possible strong winds, hail, and localized flooding.

Flood Watches remain in effect for Friday across the metro Phoenix region, with expectations that storm activity will primarily impact eastern Maricopa County and Gila County. “Not everyone will see rain, but those who do could experience significant amounts,” said Mark O’Malley from the National Weather Service.

As conditions change, residents are advised to stay weather-aware and monitor updates from local meteorologists.

While Friday presents a high chance of storms, the National Weather Service predicts an overall decrease in storm activity with the arrival of drier weather towards the coming week.
