Coalville Swat Standoff News

COALVILLE, Utah — A man was found dead Thursday afternoon following a tense SWAT standoff at a home in Coalville. The situation unfolded around 5 p.m. at a residence near 300 South Main Street after officers responded to a family dispute.

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spoke with individuals involved in the incident outside when one adult male went back inside the house and refused to exit. Concerns about criminal behavior prior to police arrival led to the involvement of the Park City Police Department’s joint SWAT team.

Sgt. Skyler Talbot of the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said SWAT negotiators attempted to persuade the man to surrender over the course of several hours. While they made brief contact, the suspect remained uncooperative.

Due to the ongoing situation, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for residents in the nearby area as a precaution. To gather information, a drone was deployed into the home, which revealed the suspect with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

SWAT teams then entered the residence and confirmed that the man was deceased. His identity has not yet been released, and investigators said the case remains active.
