Alabama Football’s Film Study Pays Off Against Georgia

Tuscaloosa, AL — The Alabama Crimson Tide football team conducted an extensive film study leading up to their game against Georgia. The focus was not just on this season or the last, but they examined footage dating back to 2022, including pivotal games that showcased Georgia’s defensive strategies.
“We were pulling up clips from the 2022 Ohio State game and anything that we thought we could possibly see, we put out there at practice, and the guys were ready,” said quarterback Ty Simpson. In that Ohio State game, Georgia secured a spot in the national championship by overcoming a 42-41 deficit, thanks in part to their defense, which registered four sacks.
This past Saturday, Alabama faced Georgia in Sanford Stadium, where they managed to keep their offensive line resilient, allowing no sacks during the game. Offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb acknowledged this in his Monday press conference, stating, “You said it well: confidence. When they execute against a defense like Georgia to all the different pressures and stunts and looks that they got…”
Looking ahead, Alabama, ranked No. 10 with a record of 3-1, will host No. 16 Vanderbilt (5-0) on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT. The game will be broadcast on ABC. Vanderbilt’s offense poses a significant challenge, averaging 49 points per game, and their rushing statistics rank 18th nationally.
Alabama’s defense also had its challenges, allowing five rushes of 20 yards or more against Georgia and a total of 227 rushing yards on 33 attempts. Defensive coordinator Noah Wommack noted the need for improvement, stating, “We’ve got to get those things fixed.” Alabama currently stands at 90th in the nation in run defense.
These issues will be scrutinized further as Alabama prepares for Vanderbilt, a team known for its strong offensive capabilities. Wommack emphasized, “In the SEC, you have to answer for the things that you put on tape.” The pressure will be on Alabama’s defense to tighten up their performance.
On the offensive side, Ty Simpson shone during the game, earning the SEC’s co-offensive player of the week award by throwing for 278 yards and three touchdowns, including one rushing touchdown. Offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor was also recognized for his significant role in the game.
Despite some setbacks, Alabama is confident moving forward, with Simpson ready to lead against the upcoming competition.
