Los Angeles, CARiot Games announced the upcoming release of a new game mode, ARAM: Mayhem, slated for patch 25.21. This new mode aims to add more excitement to the beloved ARAM format while maintaining its unique gameplay.

The developers stated that ARAM has always been a popular choice for players, whether casually playing with friends or diving deep into competitive matches. Recent updates to the mode included new maps and a reroll system known as Champion Cards. Now, they are introducing augments, enhancing gameplay in wild ways.

“In ARAM: Mayhem, players will receive four to five augments that can significantly boost their champions’ abilities,” said Riot developers. “You could transform into an unstoppable tank or a speedy attacker.” These augments will be available at various levels throughout the match, offering players the chance to customize their strategies.

The team drew inspiration for this new mode from last year’s Wild Rift‘s AAA ARAM, which allowed for augment collection and was well-received by the community. They aimed to blend the strategic elements of Arena with the fast-paced action of ARAM.

During the development process, a small team quickly created an engaging prototype that showcased the thrilling combination of team fights and dynamic augments. Over time, the endeavor evolved, expanding into a full-scale project with over 40 new augment ideas.

Some of the new features include a unique augment called “King Me,” which grants bonuses for players who successfully navigate into the enemy base. Others include creative options for amplifying damage through items like the Snowball. These diverse features promise to introduce unexpected gameplay dynamics.

However, the design team recognized the challenges involved in tracking multiple augments during chaotic team fights. They decided to eliminate persistent effects that could clutter gameplay, ensuring clarity remains a priority for players.

Developers reassured traditional ARAM fans that the original mode will still be available, with ARAM: Mayhem operating in a separate queue. This means players can enjoy both experiences without compromising their favorite gameplay style.

The Riot team is excited about the potential of ARAM: Mayhem, encouraging players to explore the new features and share their experiences. “Jump in, create unique combinations, and let us know what you think!” they said.
