Ravens Trade Odafe Oweh to Chargers Amid Struggles
Baltimore, MD — The Baltimore Ravens traded defensive player Odafe Oweh to the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday. This trade comes as the Ravens grapple with a disappointing 1-4 record this season.
The announcement, made by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, marks a shift for Oweh, who moves from one Harbaugh brother to another, leaving John Harbaugh in Baltimore for Brandon Staley in Los Angeles. Despite a standout previous season with a career-high 10.0 sacks, Oweh has yet to record a sack this season, reflecting the challenges faced by both him and the team.
The trade details were revealed by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Chargers receive Oweh along with a seventh-round pick in 2027, while the Ravens acquire safety Alohi Gilman and a sixth-round pick in 2026.
This trade appears strategic for the Chargers, who started strong but have struggled lately with two losses following three consecutive wins. They hope to strengthen their pass rush with Oweh.
For the Ravens, acquiring Gilman—a seasoned player who has spent all six NFL seasons with the Chargers—adds experience to a safety unit suffering from injuries. Gilman has started 39 of his 73 career games, notching five interceptions and 252 tackles.
While this trade does not signify a complete rebuild for the Ravens, it reflects their current struggles. Sending Oweh away, especially given his position’s importance, may indicate a reassessment of their strategy following their slow start. Fans are left to speculate whether this move will spark a turnaround for the season or complicate their efforts further.
