PEC Zwolle’s Tristan Gooijer Has Red Card Overturned by Referee Committee

ZEIST, Netherlands – The referee committee has overturned the red card issued to PEC Zwolle player Tristan Gooijer during a match against PSV. The decision comes after a review of the incident where Gooijer fouled PSV’s Joey Veerman.
Gooijer, who entered the game after halftime, was sent off by referee Alex Bos just 17 minutes into the second half. At the time, PEC Zwolle was trailing 0-2. While the on-field officials believed the foul warranted a red card, the referee committee disagreed.
The committee stated, “It was clear that Gooijer played the ball completely, and Veerman did not fall due to Gooijer’s action.” This reversal is significant for PEC Zwolle as it allows Gooijer to play in their upcoming Eredivisie match.
Initially, the professional football prosecutor suggested extending Gooijer’s punishment from one game to two, but the disciplinary committee found no grounds for additional penalties. This has led to some questioning the decision-making process of the game officials.
For PEC Zwolle, the news is welcomed as they look to maintain momentum in the league with Gooijer back in the lineup.
