Tiger Woods Undergoes Back Surgery, Faces Indefinite Recovery

New York, NY – Tiger Woods announced on Saturday that he underwent lumbar disc replacement surgery on Friday to alleviate pain and mobility issues in his lower back. The 15-time major champion revealed the news through a statement on social media.
Woods stated that after experiencing persistent pain, he consulted doctors and underwent tests that revealed a collapsed disc in his L4/L5 region, along with disc fragments and a compromised spinal canal. “I opted to have my disc replaced yesterday, and I already know I made a good decision for my health and my back,” Woods said.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Sheeraz Qureshi and his team at the Hospital for Special Surgery. This latest surgery adds to Woods’ long history of back issues, which have plagued him for nearly a decade. Last September, he had microdecompression surgery to address nerve impingement.
Woods has not yet participated in any events on the PGA Tour this season due to a previous surgery for a ruptured left Achilles tendon earlier in March. His recent surgery leaves his return to competitive golf uncertain, and no timetable has been provided.
Woods expressed his optimism about his recovery, having made only five total starts in 2024, with his only made cut at the Masters. His determined pursuit to return continues even though he had previously faced immense challenges, including significant injuries from earlier surgeries.
The golf community and fans alike are left hoping for Woods’ swift recovery, as he works towards returning to the sport he loves.
