WILLEMSTAD, Curacao — The Trinidad and Tobago senior men’s football team is gearing up for a critical FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifier against Curacao today at 7 p.m. After sitting third in Group B with four points, the Soca Warriors must secure a victory to stay in the race for the World Cup.

Curacao leads the group with seven points, followed by Jamaica with six. A loss or draw for Trinidad and Tobago would jeopardize their chances of qualifying for their second World Cup.

Head coach Dwight Yorke emphasized the importance of the match, stating, “We’re in a much better place, obviously coming off a huge victory against Bermuda. Now we come to Curacao knowing that Curacao is at the top of the table and quite rightly so.”

Yorke noted that the team is prepared for this intense challenge. “We knew from the very beginning that this group was never going to be as straightforward as many people thought,” he said. “A victory certainly will put us one step closer to qualifying.”

With all 26 players fit, Yorke believes that the team’s confidence will play a crucial role in their performance. “It’s a dream for a manager to have everyone fit and eager,” he remarked. “A victory here will be huge for us, and the players are fully aware of what it will take to overcome Curacao.”

The coach addressed the artificial turf at Ergilio Hato Stadium, assuring that it won’t be an excuse. “If it’s good for them, it’s good for us. We’re not going to make any excuse,” Yorke said. “If we play to our full potential, we have enough in our locker to overcome it.”

Yorke called on his players to embrace the pressure. “Players have to stand up and be counted. If you’re going to qualify for the World Cup, you have to come into these types of games and get results,” he asserted. “We have a squad capable of competing with the very best in this competition.”
