SACRAMENTO, California – Austin Reaves scored a career-high 51 points to lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a 127-120 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. The Lakers played without their star players, LeBron James and Luka Doncic, who are both sidelined with injuries.

Reaves delivered an impressive performance, also contributing 11 rebounds and nine assists. He fell just short of a triple-double, marking a pivotal moment in his young career. Reaves’ previous best was 45 points, which he achieved last February against the Indiana Pacers.

“Especially on a night where you don’t have Luka or Bron, you got to go out there and be big for the team,” Reaves said. He was inspired by a text from Doncic, who wanted him to score at least 60 in his absence.

Throughout the game, Reaves showcased his skills, hitting 12 of 22 shots, including six 3-pointers, and making an impressive 21 of 22 free throws. His fourth 3-pointer marked the 500th of his career, placing him ninth on the Lakers’ all-time list.

The Lakers trailed at times but surged ahead in the fourth quarter. After falling behind 101-97, they scored 20 of the next 25 points. Reaves sparked this rally with crucial 3-pointers, solidifying his role as a key player.

Deandre Ayton was also significant in the Lakers’ success, contributing 22 points and 15 rebounds. Reaves praised Ayton’s performance and emphasized the team’s collective effort on the court.

Lakers coach JJ Redick expressed confidence in Reaves’ abilities. “We’re not expecting Austin to go out and score 51 again, but we challenged the guys to play with an edge,” he said.

The Lakers’ win comes amid a tough stretch, having played without key players for multiple games. With injuries affecting the roster, Reaves’ standout performance provided a boost for the team.

As the game concluded, the Lakers secured the victory, and Reaves’ performance will be remembered as a highlight of his career. James and Doncic may have missed the game, but their teammates ensured they did not miss a beat.
