Neymar Out for Santos vs. Palmeiras Clash due to Injury Concerns
SANTOS, Brazil—Santos will be without star player Neymar for their upcoming classic match against Palmeiras on Thursday night at Allianz Parque.
Neymar expressed interest in playing, but sources indicate he was advised against it by the club’s medical team and his personal staff. They recommended he sit out the game due to potential injury risks associated with the synthetic turf at Allianz Parque.
Coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda did not list Neymar among the squad for the match, although there is hope that he will still attend to support his teammates. He traveled to São Paulo by helicopter the previous day.
This decision allows Neymar to continue his rehabilitation for a more crucial upcoming matchup against Flamengo on November 9 at Maracanã Stadium. Neymar recently returned to the pitch after a nearly 50-day stint in medical care. His absence underscores ongoing concerns within the club about their precarious position in the league standings.
Santos management has been alarmed by their recent performance, with critical losses at home, jeopardizing their status in Serie A. Losses to direct rivals have placed them within the relegation zone, following a defeat last week that puts them in the bottom four of the league.
The Santos team, under pressure to regain form, will play only its second match against Palmeiras since the stadium opened, hoping to turn around a disappointing record that includes 11 losses in 15 encounters.
The situation remains tense as the club prepares to tackle top-tier teams in the league over the next few weeks, further stressing the necessity for results. Vojvoda stressed the importance of making smart decisions regarding player management and injury risks.
As Santos prepares for the match, the team’s structure will see Gabirel Brazão in goal, supported by a lineup including Igor Vinicius, Adonis Frías, and others. The team is focused on regrouping and aiming for a crucial win against their rivals.
