Sza Music Interview

Los Angeles, CA — SZA has revealed her thoughts on the social media controversies surrounding her in a recent interview with GQ, expressing her desire to stay out of ongoing feuds in the music industry. The singer, who recently headlined a tour with Kendrick Lamar, discussed these issues in light of a summer spat with Nicki Minaj and the long-standing tensions between Lamar and Drake.

In the GQ interview, SZA explained her bewilderment at Minaj’s insults about her appearance and success, stating, “I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other.” This came after Minaj included SZA in her online criticisms aimed at others in the music industry, including executives at SZA’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment. “It was a little strange,” SZA remarked about the exchanges. “I don’t even know where it came from.”

When asked about her involvement in the rivalry between Lamar and Drake, SZA maintained her neutrality, describing it as “something between two grown-ass men.” She emphasized her longstanding relationships with both artists, noting her loyalty to Kendrick as a signed artist at TDE and her personal rapport with Drake. “I didn’t really have any stake, per se,” she stated. She further clarified her choice to perform her duet with Drake, “Rich Baby Daddy,” during her tour with Kendrick, saying, “Why wouldn’t I? I don’t know why I wouldn’t be celebrating some things that I ate up.”

SZA also shared insights into her upcoming music, revealing that she is working on what she hopes will be her best album yet, collaborating with Steve Lacy. While she has completed several tracks, she suggested that fans may not see a release until 2026 or later. In reflecting on her inspiration, she expressed disappointment in the current music landscape, saying, “I feel like the bar is in hell.”

Ultimately, SZA reiterated her focus on creating authentic music, stating, “I just want to make great things.” Amidst the chaos of social media narratives and industry beefs, she remains committed to her artistic vision.
