Peacock Picks Up Twisted Metal for Third Season Amid Leadership Change
BURBANK, Calif. — The post-apocalyptic action-comedy series “Twisted Metal” has been renewed for a third season by streaming platform Peacock. However, the show will see a shift in leadership as co-creator and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith departs.
“Twisted Metal” features a star-studded cast including Anthony Mackie, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Seanoa, and Will Arnett. The series premiered in December 2023 and recently concluded its second season, which has seen impressive viewership numbers.
Set in a chaotic “Divided State of America,” the show is inspired by the well-known video game series of the same name. Mackie plays John Doe, a mysterious figure attempting to navigate a perilous world filled with dangerous adversaries, including the psychotic Sweet Tooth, played by Seanoa and voiced by Arnett.
According to NBCUniversal, the second season garnered 993 million minutes of viewing time, making it the second most-watched returning original scripted series on the platform.
The production of Season 3 is yet to have a confirmed start date, but David Reed is expected to step in as showrunner when filming commences. The change in leadership marks a new chapter for the series.
