Maple Leafs Welcome Back Sammy Blais for Rivalry Game
Toronto, Canada — Sammy Blais is set to return to the Maple Leafs’ lineup for a crucial divisional matchup against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday evening, according to head coach Craig Berube.
This will be the only change to the lineup, leaving star players Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies out due to injury along with goalie Anthony Stolarz, defencemen Chris Tanev and Brandon Carlo, and forward Nicolas Roy.
Blais last played for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday, where he recorded an assist in a 3-2 overtime victory over the St. Louis Blues. The 29-year-old forward has tallied one goal and two assists in seven games this season since joining the Leafs after being claimed off waivers from the Canadiens.
Originally from Montmagny, Quebec, Blais expressed excitement for his return to Toronto, mentioning he will have 10 to 15 family members in attendance. “Really motivated. A little more of a chip on my shoulder tonight, for sure. It’s going to be an exciting one,” Blais said.
Meanwhile, 23-year-old Quillan, who has played two NHL games this season, has yet to score any points despite averaging 7:33 ice time per game. The Dartmouth, Nova Scotia native has stronger statistics in the AHL with two goals and 12 assists in 14 games with the Toronto Marlies.
As for the Canadiens, the team will also have changes as they face the Maple Leafs. Players are looking to bounce back after a tough game against the Washington Capitals.
