Jennifer Garner Surprises Students with Promote Early Education
CLAY COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — Actress and Charleston native Jennifer Garner surprised students at Clay County Schools on Friday. Garner visited the schools to promote early childhood education and participate in community service.
Arriving around 9 a.m., Garner joined representatives from the Mountaineer Food Bank, Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, and Save the Children USA, along with Clay County High School students. Together, they packaged meals for the Extra-Mile food delivery program.
After the meal packaging, Garner took photos with attendees before heading to Clay Elementary School. There, she engaged with kindergarten students in the Save the Children In-School Literature classroom. During a lesson, she helped the children practice vowel sounds and writing letters.
The students viewed her as a passionate learner rather than a famous actress, which was a special experience for them, according to a school press release. “Only years from now will they realize they learned alongside one of the most beloved West Virginians in history,” the statement read.
Garner’s visit continued as she received a Clay County gift basket that included local treats from businesses like Ordinary Evelyn’s and TC Treats, along with a Clay County Middle School blanket and a Clay County High School hat.
She concluded her visit with a roundtable discussion with educators and Save the Children staff. They talked about the successes of the In-School Literature program and its impact on students. Garner affirmed her dedication to advocating for early education, particularly in rural communities.
Clay County Schools expressed gratitude for Garner’s time and commitment, emphasizing her role as a proud advocate for the community’s children. The district thanked all organizations involved for their efforts in enriching students’ educational experiences.
