Alisson Becker Injured in Liverpool’s Clash with Galatasaray

ISTANBUL, Turkey — Alisson Becker left Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League match against Galatasaray due to injury on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Brazilian goalkeeper was forced off the pitch after making a key save against Victor Osimhen in the 56th minute. Alisson suffered an injury during the save, prompting Liverpool to substitute in Georgian goalkeeper Georgi Mamardashvili.
Osimhen had been on a breakaway when he attempted a low shot from the arc, but Alisson managed to thwart the effort. However, his efforts left him in discomfort. Liverpool confirmed they will provide an update on Alisson’s status later.
In the first half, Alisson made several crucial saves, including three notable stops, but could not prevent Osimhen from scoring a penalty in the 16th minute, which gave Galatasaray a 1-0 lead.
The Reds may have to rely on Mamardashvili for their upcoming match as they prepare for a weekend trip to Stamford Bridge. Mamardashvili, who recently joined Liverpool for a fee that could reach $40 million, stepped in for his Champions League debut.
Alisson was already managing injuries, having missed ten Premier League games last season due to thigh and hamstring issues, as well as two games from a concussion. He had missed a total of 17 matches across competitions.
Despite these setbacks, Alisson remains Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper and is under contract until 2027. The team has made significant changes in their goalkeeping lineup, sending Chris Kelleher to Brentford and loaning Vitezslav Jaros to Ajax.
In addition to Mamardashvili, Liverpool has signed other goalkeepers such as Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi to strengthen the squad.
As Liverpool focuses on the upcoming matches, Coach Arne Slot emphasized the need for players to adapt, noting the team’s adjustments with new acquisitions. “We have many games to play. We have to utilize our squad,” he said.
