Amy Poehler Reacts to Beyoncé’s Praise for “Inside Out 2”
Amy Poehler, the Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian, recently expressed her excitement and emotion over Beyoncé’s praise for the film “Inside Out 2.” Poehler, known for her role as Joy in Disney/Pixar’s animated movie, shared her surprise and delight upon learning that the global superstar had called the film “the best movie she has seen this year.”
“Well, she’s a Virgo, so she knows what she’s talking about,” Poehler quipped, acknowledging Beyoncé’s discerning taste. “Wow! I’m kind of overwhelmed that Beyoncé liked it – I’m going to need a minute,” she added with a laugh. “That means a lot. She’s just such a GOAT; she’s incredible at absolutely everything she does.”
“Inside Out 2” is currently available for streaming on Disney+ and can be purchased on digital platforms such as Apple TV and Prime Video. The sequel has achieved significant commercial success, becoming the highest-grossing animated movie worldwide.
Poehler attributes much of the film’s success to its timely themes. “Like the first movie, ‘Inside Out 2’ is set inside the mind of a girl named Riley, only this time, she’s dealing with new teenage emotions like Anxiety,” Poehler explained. She noted that cultural shifts have made audiences more receptive to discussing emotions. “People were really ready to talk about anxiety and how it bumps up against joy,” she said.
The film has also resonated with parents, including Beyoncé, as it explores themes of parenting and allowing loved ones to experience emotions. “There’s a lot of themes in there about being a parent,” Poehler said. “How do you try to let the people that you love experience these things and not try to feel it for them?”
Since the movie’s premiere, Poehler has enjoyed witnessing the audience’s fondness for new characters, such as Pouchy, a talking fanny pack voiced by James Austin Johnson. The film also includes playful elements, like Riley’s Deep Dark Secret, which is humorously revealed in the post-credits scene to be quite harmless.
Looking ahead, Poehler expressed her hopes for “Inside Out 2” during the awards season, particularly for an Academy Award nomination for Best Film. “The last time an animated movie received a best picture Oscar nomination was in 2011 with ‘Toy Story 3.'” she stated enthusiastically.
While there are currently no plans for a third installment, Poehler remains optimistic about the future. “I’m always ready for more. I play Joy, so I’m always like: ‘Let’s go! Let’s go! Let’s go!’” she declared. When asked about the possibility of Beyoncé voicing a new emotion, Poehler responded with a grin, “From your lips to God’s ears, God, aka Beyoncé.”
