Andrew Scott And Paul Mescal Excited To Bring 'all Of Us Strangers' To Ireland

Irish actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal greeted enthusiastic crowds at the gala screening of Andrew Haigh‘s latest film, ‘All of Us Strangers’, in Dublin on Friday night. The film, a moving gay romance, has already garnered critical acclaim and touched many hearts at festivals and its US release.

Both Scott and Mescal expressed their excitement and pride in the film’s success, mentioning that they knew it was going to be special while making it. They were thrilled by the effect the film had on people, describing it as an extraordinary experience that resonates with everyone who watches it.

All of Us Strangers premiered at the Telluride Film Festival last August and has emerged as one of the most highly praised films of the ongoing awards season. The Guardian referred to it as “an enormously satisfying and affecting experience,” while the Hollywood Reporter warned audiences to “prepare to be wrecked.”

The film stars Scott as a London-based writer, with strong Irish roots, who embarks on a sexual relationship with Mescal’s troubled neighbor while also grappling with a new screenplay. Jamie Bell and Claire Foy make appearances as spectres or memories of the writer’s deceased parents.

Despite their limited on-screen collaboration, Scott and Mescal’s chemistry has been widely recognized and appreciated by audiences. They have also developed an amusing double act in red carpet appearances and interviews, demonstrating their genuine camaraderie and rapport.

Director Andrew Haigh, known for his acclaimed films such as ’45 Years’ and ‘Weekend’, explained that although it was coincidental to have two Irish leads, he believed their shared heritage contributed to the on-screen chemistry. Haigh expressed his admiration for the talent and dedication of both actors, stating that they brought something truly amazing to the film.

All of Us Strangers showcases explicit sex scenes between the two leads, sparking much discussion, which Haigh welcomes as long as it encourages people to see the movie. However, it is the emotional depth and power of the relationship between the characters that has garnered the film widespread acclaim. The nostalgic soundtrack, featuring hits from the 1980s, adds another layer of nostalgia and resonance to the film.

Paul Mescal expressed his excitement at bringing the film back to his home country for its release, mentioning that his family would be attending the premiere. Both Mescal and Scott shared their anticipation and nervousness about their families witnessing their intimate scenes on the big screen.

Despite not being nominated for a Bafta, Scott remains hopeful for an Oscar nomination when the announcements are made on Tuesday. ‘All of Us Strangers’ will be released in cinemas in Ireland on January 26th.
