Avonte Maddox Signing With Lions Football

Detroit, Michigan – Cornerback Avonte Maddox, a seven-season veteran with the Philadelphia Eagles, has signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. The confirmation came from his agent on Friday, although the team has yet to make an official announcement.

Maddox, a native of Detroit, attended Martin Luther King High School before moving on to play college football at the University of Pittsburgh. His partner, Iman Williams, celebrated the signing on social media with a post featuring a screen that read ‘Welcome, Avonte!’ alongside the Lions’ logo.

“I told Avonte at the beginning of last season that I knew he’d end up at the Lions next season,” Williams stated. “He looked at me like I was crazy, but honestly, I was sure because I knew it would be best for us. When I say something’s going to happen and I believe it fully, 9 out of 10 it happens. Yes, I have superpowers.”

Maddox was selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Over his career with Philadelphia, he played in 81 games, starting 41, and recorded a total of 270 tackles, which included 13 tackles for loss. He also tallied four interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

His last memorable contribution to the Eagles came during Super Bowl LIX, when he made a crucial pass breakup on a fourth down in the second half. Now, Maddox is set to join a Lions team known for its strong defensive lineup, positioning them as one of the top competitors in the NFC.

“I’m excited for the opportunity to play for my hometown team,” Maddox stated. “This is where I grew up, and I can’t wait to contribute to the Lions’ success.”

The Lions’ defense will likely benefit from Maddox’s skills as they aim for a strong showing in the upcoming season.
