76th Emmy Awards 2024

LOS ANGELES—”The Bear” has once more demonstrated its dominance at the Emmys, securing repeat victories on Sunday night in the categories of best actor, best supporting actor, and best supporting actress in a comedy series. Jeremy Allen White, the star of the FX series, claimed the best actor in a comedy award for the second consecutive year. Similarly, Ebon Moss-Bachrach achieved a repeat win as best supporting actor.

A notable moment occurred when Liza Colón-Zayas emerged victorious as best supporting actress in a comedy series, defying significant competition. “How could I have thought it would be possible to be in the presence of Meryl Streep and Carol Burnett,” Colón-Zayas said tearfully during her acceptance speech at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. She made history as the first Latina to win in this category, urging Latinas to “keep believing and vote.”

The triumphs of “The Bear” follow its impressive haul at the previously strike-delayed Emmys in January, where it won six awards, capturing many of the top comedy categories. The show’s second season features White’s character Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto attempting to transform his family’s humble Chicago sandwich shop into a prestigious restaurant, with Moss-Bachrach’s Richard “Cousin Richie” Jerimovich undergoing a dramatic change from a rough character to a refined maître d’.

Hosting the 76th Emmy Awards, Eugene and Dan Levy humorously recognized the intense nature of “The Bear,” noting that in its honor, they would refrain from making jokes. Additionally, Jean Smart continued her winning streak in the best actress in a comedy category for “Hacks,” marking her third win for the series and her sixth Emmy overall.

Another FX series, “Shogun,” entered the evening with a record 14 wins from the Creative Arts Emmys. However, it missed capturing a win at the main event for best supporting actor in a drama, where Billy Crudup triumphed for his role in “The Morning Show.” Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai still have the opportunity to make history as the first Japanese actors to win Emmys in their respective categories.

Elizabeth Debicki was honored as best supporting actress in a drama for her portrayal of Princess Diana in the final season of “The Crown.” Debicki described playing this role as a privilege and a gift.

The awards ceremony also recognized “The Traitors” as the winner in the outstanding reality competition program category, and “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” claimed victory in the outstanding scripted variety series.
