Bryce Young Injured Early in Panthers Game Against Falcons
Atlanta, GA — Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young suffered an injury during the first quarter of today’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Young was sacked by Falcons linebacker Billy Bowman and appeared to be in pain on the field.
After the hit, Young remained on the ground and required assistance from the team’s medical staff. Reports from the stadium indicated that he walked to the locker room under his own power, sparking concerns about the severity of the injury. The Panthers were tied 7-7 when Young exited.
Young was warming up to return to action shortly after the incident, as backup quarterback Andy Dalton was seen preparing to step in. However, Young returned to the field without missing a snap, which alleviated some worries among fans and coaches alike.
This situation unfolded during the Panthers’ second offensive drive. Young was executing a play when he adjusted the protection after recognizing Bowman’s pre-snap alignment but was overwhelmed by the rush. Right guard Chandler Zavala was criticized for not blocking the oncoming defender effectively, which resulted in Young hitting the ground hard.
It has been noted that Young previously sprained his right ankle in a comparable situation. Medical professional Dr. Tom Christ commented on the injury mechanism stating, “I see the defender stepping on his right ankle creating an eversion force that can lead to a high ankle sprain. Young had a right high ankle sprain earlier this season.”
Despite earlier concerns about his ability to return following the injury, Young rejoined the game for the Panthers, who are seeking to maintain playoff contention in the NFC.
