Celebrity Hairdresser Trevor Sorbie Reveals Terminal Cancer Diagnosis
Trevor Sorbie, the renowned hairdresser celebrated for his contributions to the fashion and beauty industry, has revealed his terminal diagnosis of bowel cancer. The 75-year-old appeared on the television program ‘This Morning‘ to share the news publicly, accompanied by his wife, Carole.
During the emotional interview, Sorbie detailed how he discovered his illness after experiencing a significant loss of blood on one occasion, which prompted a rushed visit to the hospital. He recalled the moment he and his wife received the cancer diagnosis, describing it as a moment of disbelief. “I lost a lot of blood one night and was unusually disturbed so went to hospital. They told me I had bowel cancer,” said Sorbie.
Carole added that the cancer had spread to Trevor’s liver, necessitating two extensive operations each lasting over six hours. She revealed that during the latest scan in September, they were given the unfortunate news that further treatment would not be effective due to the cancer’s location near a critical blood vessel, reducing his chances of survival.
Despite these challenges, Sorbie, known for his positive outlook, affirmed his determination to live wholeheartedly. “I never wake up thinking, ‘Oh poor me, I’ve got cancer,'” he emphasized, highlighting the support from his longstanding staff and family.
Sorbie’s impressive career spans several decades, during which he not only styled numerous celebrities including Queen Elizabeth II and Helen Mirren but also revolutionized hairdressing techniques. He is credited with the invention of iconic haircuts such as ‘the wedge’ and was awarded an MBE in 2004. Further testament to his talent, Sorbie has been a four-time recipient of the British Hairdresser of the Year award.
The hair guru has also been actively involved with his charity ‘My Wig Hair,’ which trains hairdressers to design wigs for cancer patients, offering emotional support through practical assistance. This charity was personally inspired after he helped his brother’s wife create a realistic wig during her battle with bone cancer.
Viewers of the ‘This Morning’ broadcast took to social media to commend Sorbie on his strength and courage. Comments poured in expressing admiration for the couple’s resilience and the love they share. “Sending hugs to Trevor and his wife,” one viewer wrote, while another stated, “What an incredible man, keep fighting Trevor.”
Trevor Sorbie’s legacy continues to inspire many, as he candidly discusses living each day to its fullest despite his prognosis, rallying support from family, friends, and fans alike.
