Chiefs Elevate Deon Bush, Swayze Bozeman Ahead of Texans Playoff Clash
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their roster ahead of Saturday’s Divisional Round playoff game against the Houston Texans, elevating safety Deon Bush and linebacker Swayze Bozeman from the practice squad to the active roster on Friday. The move comes as the Chiefs aim to secure their seventh consecutive AFC Championship appearance.
Bush, a veteran safety, is no stranger to playoff heroics. He sealed the Chiefs’ 2023 AFC Championship victory over the Baltimore Ravens with a game-clinching interception. Now in his third season with Kansas City, the 31-year-old provides valuable depth in the secondary. Bush appeared in two regular-season games this year, recording three tackles.
Bozeman, meanwhile, is set to make his playoff debut. The linebacker appeared in three regular-season games, tallying two tackles. While neither player is a starter, Bush’s postseason experience could prove crucial if injuries arise in the defensive backfield.
The Chiefs’ secondary remains healthy, with rookie safety Jaden Hicks emerging as a key contributor alongside Bryan Cook and Justin Reid. However, Bush’s presence offers insurance for a unit that has dealt with injuries throughout the season.
Kansas City also made a roster adjustment earlier in the week, signing wide receiver Jason Brownlee to the practice squad and releasing tight end Robert Tonyan. Brownlee, who spent the 2023 season with the New York Jets, brings size and a strong catch radius to the Chiefs’ receiving corps. The Southern Miss product caught 55 passes for 891 yards and eight touchdowns in his final collegiate season.
The Chiefs enter Saturday’s game with the second-best odds (+350) to win the Super Bowl, according to recent betting lines. With a mix of seasoned veterans and emerging talent, Kansas City is poised to make another deep playoff run.
