Chilly Weather and Snow Linger Over Washington State This Weekend
SEATTLE, Washington — Day three of a Pinpoint Alert brings chilly temperatures and lingering snow across Washington. The high winds from the previous night have subdued, leaving a forecast of mostly cloudy skies and low temperatures in the mid 40s this evening.
As Snow levels drop, mountain passes are bracing for icy and slippery conditions. Snoqualmie Pass experienced moderate snowfall earlier today, with several inches accumulating on I-90. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Cascades, effective until 5:00 A.M.
Forecasts indicate Snoqualmie Pass could see additional snowfall before tapering off after midnight, with a total of 1 to 5 inches expected tonight.
“Travel tonight could be hazardous,” said a spokesperson from the Washington State Department of Transportation. “Ice and slush accumulation will be a concern for drivers.”
Wind gusts recorded during the recent storm were significant, with Hoquiam reaching 77 mph, Westport at 54 mph, and Tacoma at 60 mph. Although the winds have decreased, isolated outages remain a possibility due to fallen trees and downed power lines.
A high-pressure system is anticipated to build over Washington on Monday, bringing the prospect of patchy fog and a mix of sun and clouds during the day. Rain showers might persist, albeit less than 30% coverage, with temperatures expected to rise into the lower 50s.
Looking ahead, another low-pressure system is set to bring rain late Tuesday into Wednesday morning. While the rain will diminish after this front passes, the forecast suggests heavy rainfall returning next weekend, especially affecting the Skokomish River area.
“We urge residents to stay informed on weather developments, especially those with travel plans,” warned the spokesperson.
