Flavio Cobolli Jaume Munar Shanghai Masters

SHANGHAI, China – Flavio Cobolli, the 22nd seed, will meet unseeded Jaume Munar in the second round of the 2025 Rolex Shanghai Masters after Cobolli received a bye and Munar advanced with a comeback win against Marton Fucsovics.

Cobolli has had a breakthrough season, clinching two titles in Bucharest and Hamburg. Rising to a career-high ranking of No. 17 in July, he currently sits at No. 22. Cobolli showcased his skills by reaching the quarterfinals in Phoenix, Turin, Halle, and Wimbledon, where he pushed Novak Djokovic to four sets. However, he also faced setbacks, including a third-round retirement at the US Open due to a right arm issue and a second-round exit in Beijing.

In terms of performance, Cobolli has struck 221 aces with a 68% success rate on first-serve points, winning 31% of return points and converting 38% of 411 break points.

On the other hand, Munar’s season has been steady but not particularly spectacular. He had strong semifinal finishes in Hong Kong and Dallas, a quarterfinal in Winston-Salem, and reached the fourth round at both Wimbledon and the US Open. His consistent performances pushed him to a career-high ranking of No. 37, but he recently found himself at No. 41 after a first-round exit in Tokyo.

Munar’s statistics include 177 aces, with 72% of his first-serve points won, 31% on return points, and a 41% break-point conversion from 380 opportunities.

This match marks their first head-to-head encounter. While Cobolli’s recent form and shot-making ability give him an edge, Munar’s resilience could prove challenging. Experts predict Cobolli will win in straight sets.
